Introduction  |  Anterior Tibial Tenosynovitis  |  Medial and Anterior Tibial Syndrome  |  Posterior Tibialis Tenosynovitis  |  Stress Fractures
Shin splints is a term used to describe a variety of conditions causing pain and dysfunction in the front of the lower leg. These conditions include anterior tibial tenosynovitis, medial tibial syndrome, anterior tibial syndrome, and posterior tibialis tenosynovitis and stress fractures of the tibia and fibula. Complicated isn't it! And incorrect diagnosis can easily be made. All of these conditions can be caused by:

Training on very hard surfaces
Persistent bend running with a marked lean, or running indoors
Biomechanical problems - excessive rolling on the inner or outer border of the foot
Any condition which will affect the normal transfer of weight from the heel to the to knee to hip i.e. high arches
