What to do if you have pack pain
Introduction  |  Pelvic Tilting Exercises  |  Flexion Exercise  |  Knee Drops
Back pain is often caused by muscle spasm. To help reduce the inflammation and pain place a heat pack (or if you can bear it an ice pack) on your back for 15 minutes. In most cases a visit to your GP isn't necessary but your doctor can prescribe muscle relaxants and these can reduce spasm. Your physiotherapist is the best person to advise if the pain is unbearable, has stayed the same for two days or got worse. Symptoms like numbness and pins and needles should be taken seriously. The following are helpful hints:
When resting or at night-time lie in a curled position on your side with a large rolled up pillow between your knees.
When sitting, sit with your bottom higher than your knees.
When you need to bend forwards bend your knees.
A professional massage can be really helpful if you have muscle spasms, but it is advisable to see your physiotherapist first.
It may seem strange but it is best to keep active. If you do your symptoms will get better faster. Lying in bed for more than 1-2 days may make your pain worse and your recovery slower.
Do the exercises found in the above links.
